Meet Amanda

"I've truly enjoyed my time at Carthage and I will never forget the fun classes, goofy professors, campus events or such great friends."

Hometown: West Allis, Wis.

Major: Sociology

Minor: Religion

Career Goal: "I aspire to be a counselor for children, whether it's a guidence counselor, a youth minister, or something of that nature."

Amanda King became interested in sociology after taking an introductory course with Sociology professor Rick Matthews.

"The way he taught made me very interested in the topics because I could relate more easily," Amanda says. "He is very laid-back and easy to talk to because he has a way of connecting sociology to anything, from baseball to stickbugs."

Amanda says studying sociology has helped her understand more about herself and the world around her.

"The Sociology Department has many knowledgeable professors who are always willing to help," she says. "All of the classes are interesting, beneficial and definitely worthwhile if you're willing to put forth the effort."

"I've truly enjoyed my time at Carthage and I will never forget the fun classes, goofy professors, campus events or such great friends," she says.

Toughest course: "I've found that Sociological Research Methods has been a challenging class, but it certainly provides us with skills that will be helpful in the future."

Opportunities while at Carthage: "I've had the opportunity to be employed through the federal work study program to gain experience with people in my field."

Favorite spot on campus: "I've had a lot of fond memories in the dorms and going down by Lake Michigan, but I believe the best hidden secret at Carthage is weekday breakfast in the Caf. Jason will make you the best pancakes, omelets, French toast, hash browns, bacon, sausage or whatever you want!"
