The Carthage Summer Undergraduate Research Experience, or SURE, offers students the opportunity to engage in collaborative research with faculty mentors.
Students who are selected for the program work closely with a faculty mentor on a new or developing line of research in the natural sciences or mathematics. (Students in the social sciences can apply for a position in the Social Science Summer Research Program.)
SURE provides a stipend of approximately $2,750, as well as standard campus room and board, and a research budget. Participants work on campus for 8 to 10 weeks of intensive research during the summer.
Students and faculty participating in SURE meet weekly for lunch and student presentations of research progress. Each SURE student is required to write a summative project report.
A poster session is held during the final week of the program. The entire Carthage community is invited to the presentation to view and discuss research results.
