About

The web development office at Carthage College has embarked on a journey to rebuild its home-grown content management system, and we'll be using this site to discuss the project.

Three developers (one full-time employee and two students) and one pointy-haired boss are involved in designing and building this new content management system. The new system, which we have named Sputnik, is being built with Django, a web application framework written in Python. Sputnik is replacing Quahog, a CMS we built a few years ago in Coldfusion.

Carthage is a private college of the liberal arts and sciences, affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Located midway between Chicago and Milwaukee, Carthage's picturesque campus on the Lake Michigan shore is home to 2,148 full-time and 551 part-time students.
