

Students who excel in Western Heritage seminars may win special scholarships, earn All-College Honors, or become Heritage fellows. Students can also get individual help in Carthage's Writing Center, or pursue further study in the Great Ideas program.

These scholarships offer an opportunity for currently enrolled students to receive substantial scholarship support.
The Great Ideas program is unique to Carthage, and continues the intellectual journey begun in Western Heritage I and II. The versatile Great Ideas degree gives students extensive skills in communication, reasoning and critical thinking.
Several students who excel in Western Heritage are selected each year to be a Heritage Fellow. Fellows assist other students with free tutoring.
For a student to graduate with All-College Honors, he or she must take at least one semester of Honors Western Heritage. Some students are invited into an Honors Western Heritage seminar before the fall semester of their freshman year. Other students will be nominated to take an Honors Western Heritage seminar by their Western Heritage I professor.
Hannibal Lectures are a popular event, and are open to faculty and students from all fields. The focus of the lectures is to spark discussion about the texts taught in the Western Heritage courses.
