Three things attracted Andrea Leschewski to Carthage: “The small school atmosphere, the International Political Economy program, and the lake.” Now a junior, Andrea is a student fellow for the Western Heritage program, tutoring other students and assisting the Western Heritage faculty and staff.
She meets with students for private tutoring sessions, generally in Hedberg Library or Donna’s Bytes.
“I meet with students and help them with a variety of tasks associated with the writing process, such as analyzing the text, making an outline, formulating a thesis, finding support within the text, and polishing a rough draft,” she said. “I enjoy helping other students with their writing and find their interpretations of the texts intriguing.
“In my case, the Western Heritage program revealed the extent to which various texts are related and intertwined," she continued. "Within the program, we read various texts, which differed in terms of plot, but which focused on the same reoccurring themes, such as homecoming, revenge and the divine. I found it fascinating to read various authors' interpretations of these themes and the stories that they used to convey them."
Favorite Heritage text: “Essays” by Michel de Montaigne.
Favorite professor: "Prof. Trautwein. He made Calculus easy and enjoyable through his practical examples, organized notes and constantly cheerful attitude.”
Favorite class: “Thus far, my favorite — and toughest — class at Carthage has been Intermediate Microeconomics with Prof. Cronovich. While the class was challenging, I found the subject matter intriguing and enjoyed the freedom Prof. Cronovich gave us in choosing our research paper topics. I also feel that I retained most of the knowledge taught in the course due to Professor Cronovich's diligence in teaching it to us.”
Favorite moments at Carthage: “Meeting my best friend Angela. We were both freshman trying out for tennis and we had a lot of fun exploring Carthage and Kenosha together during tryouts.” Andrea also traveled to Paris during J-Term her freshman year. "It was an amazing experience in which I was able to immerse myself in another culture and practice my French."
Favorite spot on campus: The Kibbe Corner in Straz. “I always do my homework or study for exams there.”
Biggest surprises so far: Adding a second major – in math. “After finishing high school, I assumed I was done with math forever, but after taking the calculus sequence at Carthage I really started to enjoy math and decided to major in it.”
Career goals: Graduate School in applied/resource economics with an ultimate goal of being a research economist focusing on the food industry.
