Carthage awards up to $14,000 in Heritage Scholarships each year, with individual awards up to $2,500. These scholarships celebrate the high quality of student learning through the Western Heritage seminars. They also give current students the opportunity to receive substantial scholarship support.
The Western Heritage faculty invites all students who have written exemplary essays or papers in Western Heritage to apply for a Heritage Scholarship.
Your submission should be a text-based essay (including a narrative essay) written for a Western Heritage course. The paper should explore and analyze the meaning of a primary text that is part of the Western Heritage curriculum.
The Heritage Scholarship awards are in addition to any other Carthage grants and scholarships a student may receive. Students not eligible for financial aid rewards — for example, Lincoln Scholars — are nonetheless encouraged to apply for a Heritage Scholarship. If selected, they will receive a public recognition of their accomplishments as Heritage Scholars. Scholarship awards are for the upcoming academic year only.
A team of faculty establishes the guidelines and procedures for each year's scholarship competition.
