Eboo Patel, a leading national voice in the movement for interfaith cooperation, will give a presentation in A. F. Siebert Chapel at 7 p.m. March 15. His address, titled “Interfaith Leadership: Engaging Faith and Philosophical Diversity in the 21st Century”, is free to attend and open to the public.

This serves as the keynote address for Carthage’s ongoing “Luther 500: Here I Stand” series. Events are planned throughout 2017, which marks 500 years since Martin Luther’s posting of the Ninety-five Theses started the Protestant Reformation.

Mr. Patel is the founder and president of Chicago-based nonprofit Interfaith Youth Core. For more than 15 years, he has worked with governments, social sector organizations, and college and university campuses to realize a future when religion is a bridge of cooperation rather than a barrier of division.

He served on the inaugural Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships under President Barack Obama and remains a regular contributor to the public conversation surrounding religion in America.

Mr. Patel has written several books: “Acts of Faith: The Story of an American Muslim, in the Struggle for the Soul of a Generation”; “Sacred Ground: Pluralism, Prejudice, and the Promise of America”; and “Interfaith Leadership: A Primer”. Copies will be available for purchase in the chapel, and Mr. Patel will be available to sign them after the address.

The German Embassy in Washington is providing support for the event through its “500th Anniversary of the Reformation” Campus Week initiative.

While on campus, Mr. Patel also plans to lead workshops for Carthage employees. A faculty session is scheduled from 1:35 to 2:40 p.m. March 15, with a session for staff to follow from 2:50 to 3:55 p.m. Both are in Ehrler Hospitality Center in A.F. Siebert Chapel. RSVP by March 8 using the online form.
