We are pleased to announce that Ashley Greenwood ’14, assistant professor of exercise and sport science, has accepted the appointment of pre-health advising team co-chair for a three-year period now through August 2024.

Earlier this fall, with leadership from Dean Deanna Byrnes and Associate VP Lisa Hinkley, we had a call for a new pre-health advising team co-chair. In particular, we sought a faculty member who would work closely with Haley Perez, the career specialist for science and pre-health in The Aspire Center. This represents a collaborative effort to advise and prepare a program for students pursuing careers in health care, with support from a team of additional faculty who advise students in particular areas.

Ashley holds a BA in Athletic Training from Carthage, an MS in Health and Kinesiology from Northeastern State University, and is in the final stages of completing her PhD in Educational Leadership: Health and Human Performance at Concordia University in Chicago. Her experience as a member of the faculty at Carthage over the past few years, serving as the clinical education coordinator, athletic trainer, and classroom instructor, and her previous professional experience as a clinician, will bring invaluable insight to our students’ preparation for careers in the health sector. Additionally, Ashley is skilled in building relationships with external partners that will help us build more placement opportunities such as shadowing and internships.

There are several aspects planned for this work, including new curricular and co-curriculum development, ongoing coaching and advising for pre-health students, and coordinating the communication between pre-health students, faculty advisors for the various pre-health tracks, the Office of the Registrar, and The Aspire Center.

Please join us in congratulating Ashley!
