Fourteen Carthage Model United Nations students, accompanied by Professor Jeffrey Roberg and Professor Emerita Penny Seymoure, recently traveled to Barcelona, Spain to attend the Barcelona International Model United Nations (BIMUN) conference.

Over 350 delegates from 15 countries were in attendance. Over the course of three days, Carthage students debated and passed resolutions on such diverse topics as the negative effects of information overload on mental health, the ongoing conflict in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, women’s economic empowerment, the role of smuggled firearms in ongoing conflicts, and the containment of nuclear proliferation in 1968.

Model UN helps students to sharpen their “hard” and “soft” skills through research, writing, public speaking (in front of large groups), and diplomacy through working in smaller groups. In addition to helping students build and refine these skills, they also see an increase in confidence in presenting their views in a potentially stressful environment. If you are interested in international events, please join us. Model UN is open to students of all majors.
