Judging and spirit

Participating groups will be judged based on the following criteria:

  • Carthage spirit (color, representation of mascot, energy, enthusiasm, etc.)
  • Visual appeal (attention to detail, design, uniformity of group)
  • Overall appeal (combination of spirit and visual appeal, positive participation, choreographed dance or coordinated cheer)

Participating student organizations are encouraged to participate in the banner decorating contest prior to the parade and carry their banner as part of their parade display.

Guidelines and important details

  • Given the shortened parade route and keeping safety in mind, floats, flatbed trucks, tow trucks, and other motorized vehicles are prohibited on the parade route.
  • Golf carts will be made available for individuals with accessibility needs and are permitted on the parade route. Participating groups should indicate their need for a golf cart on their parade registration form.
  • Alcohol and other drugs are not allowed during the setup, takedown, or parade itself. Organizations may be asked to leave if alcohol is found. Individuals found in violation of College policy will be referred to the conduct process.
  • Organizations should be lined up in their assigned spot at parade lineup and stay in order throughout the course of the parade.
  • Organizations are responsible for picking up all leftover decorations and garbage after the parade.
  • The parade is a family-friendly event. No offensive language, music, clothing, or gestures will be allowed.
  • Participants wishing to provide candy and other gifts should have walkers along the float to hand them directly to parade attendees.
  • Discharging firearms, noise makers, fireworks, or similar items at any time during the parade is prohibited.
