Did you know that Carthage offers scholarships to incoming students in the visual and performing arts?

Carthage provides scholarships up to $10,000 per year, and each scholarship is renewable for all four years at Carthage. Each year, the visual and performing arts award nearly half a million dollars in aid.

The arts are alive at Carthage! Over a thousand students participate in the visual and performing arts at Carthage each year, with over 400 students in our performing arts ensembles. The visual and performing arts at Carthage include music, theatre, dance, graphic design, and more — anyone who wants to continue to perform and create!

Visual and performing arts students who will start at Carthage in fall 2023 are invited to apply for scholarships in as many programs as they plan to study. Scholarships are awarded based on a portfolio review or an audition. The links to the scholarships available and their deadlines are listed below:

Art

Acrylic painting in the painting and drawing studio. (Spring 2016) The Art Department offers scholarships for students in the areas of studio art, art education (K-12), and art history. The program also has scholarships for the photography minor as well as the film and new media minor. A portfolio review is required.

Music

In 2021-22, Carthage launched a Bachelor of Music in Music Education program.

Students can choose to earn a Bachelor of Arts in music or a Bachelor of Music in music education (vocal and instrumental) or piano performance and collaborative piano. Students who are interested in advanced study can add an emphasis in vocal performance, instrumental performance, piano pedagogy, and music composition. The Music Department offers an interdisciplinary program in music theatre, and minors in music and music theatre. Scholarship auditions are open to music majors, music minors, and non-music majors who are interested in participating in ensembles.

Theatre

The Cast of Carthage College's production of Patience and Fortitude in 2021. The Theatre Department welcomes well-rounded theatre artists to audition or participate in portfolio reviews. Students in the program can choose to major in theatre performance, technical theatre (scenic design, costume design, stage management), theatre education (K-12), or a general major option. Carthage also has an option for a self-designed theatre directing Track. Scholarships are available for both theatre majors and minors.
