Carthage students win prizes at Japanese Speech and Recitation Contest

Carthage students won prizes at the Japanese Speech and Recitation Contest, a joint event hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Carthage College on March 3. The two sites connected for the contest through Zoom.

Five external judges from Maquette University, Milwaukee Career College, and Menomonee Falls High School (retired) evaluated over 30 students who presented Japanese speeches and poem recitations.

About 20-30 Carthage students attended the event. The following students participated in the contest:

• Shahrazad Shahin ’26
• Sabrina Moskow ’24
• Tyler Hunter ’25
• Lilli Postuchow ’26
• Kyan Preslar ’26

Ice Sungkakham won fourth prize, Lilli Postuchow won second prize in recitation, and Tyler Hunter won second prize in the speech session. Every participant challenged themselves and did an excellent job.
