5 Carthage alumni involved in Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s ‘Little Women’

Five Carthage theatre and musical theatre alumni are participating in the Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s production of “Little Women.”

The play

The Milwaukee Rep’s newest co-production with Seattle Repertory Theater, “Little Women,” opened on Jan. 16. The play is adapted by Kate Hamill, directed by Marti Lyons, and based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott.

“‘Little Women’ tells a tale of family, friendship, love, and adventure that never fails to tug on the heartstrings, and with a new adaptation by prolific playwright Kate Hamill, it’s never been more resonant. During the years of the Civil War, ambitious 15-year-old Jo March and her sisters must navigate hardships, heartbreak, and humility as they come of age in a world bound by class and tragedy. Tender and playful, this incredible production will help you fall in love again with these four young dreamers as they discover themselves in a divided country. ‘Little Women’ is the third production in the Rep’s Classics Initiative.”

The show runs through Sunday, Feb. 18.

Austin Winter ’18, M.M ’22 (they/them) is happy to be back at the Rep. Rayven Craft ’23 is thrilled to join the Milwaukee Rep this season as acting emerging resident performer. She has enjoyed being part of productions such as “Dial M for Murder” (Maxine U/S) and “A Christmas Carol” (Vicar, Mrs. Dilber U/S), Mrs. Fezziwig U/S). While at Carthage, Ms. Craft participted in numerous productions, such as “Legally Blonde” (Pilar), “Sweet Charity” (Helene), and “Memento Mori” (Rory). Her credits also include her playwirhgt debut, “Cinderella: The Real Story” published by Theatrical Rights Worldwide. She is also a singer/songwriter and producer.

Cassidy Skorija ’19 is now in her fifth season at Milwaukee Rep. In her current position, she has transformed her love for theater into a passion for connecting donors with opportunities to ensure the continued vitality of arts and culture in Milwaukee. As campaign director, she works closely with Rep volunteers and executive leadership in support of the Powering Milwaukee Campaign, a $75 million capital campaign to rebuild and reimagine Milwaukee Rep’s current downtown home. This includes fundraising for the project, managing communications with donors and volunteers, and reporting on campaign progress internally and externally. She also maintains a portfolio of major donors who support Milwaukee Rep programming and operations, including helping to secure sponsorships for productions like and educational programming about “Little Women.” She recently joined the board of Girls Rock, a nonprofit organization based in Milwaukee that empowers individuals of marginalized identities and diverse experiences through music education and performance, and is a proud member of the Southeastern Wisconsin chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Lexi Asare ’22 is a Wisconsin-born and based costume artisan who is currently a full-time staff stitcher and company member with the Milwaukee Repertory Theater. She apprenticed at the Tony Award-winning Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, Rhode Island. Some of her most notable and favorite productions worked on include “Sweeney Todd” and “The Inferior Sex” at the Trinity Rep and “A Christmas Carol” at the Milwaukee Rep.

Zoë Gatz ’22 is an artist and arts administrator based in Milwaukee. Recent theater credits include the post-grad production of “Frontline” for Carthage; and “Alice in Wonderland” and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” both for Three Brothers Theatre. In her role, she spends her days developing strategies and campaigns to get folks to turn off Netflix and go back to seeing live theater. Through ticket programing, special events, and community outreach, she strives to make theater more accessible to all members of the greater Milwaukee area.
