With a first-class learning center, expert faculty, and a prime location in the heart of a major business corridor, Carthage offers accounting majors an unequaled experience in learning business principles.

Like all business programs at Carthage, the Accounting major utilizes the College’s proprietary READY™ curriculum design. “READY” stands for “Real-world Experience And Developing You.”

This student-centered philosophy means you won’t just study the theories of business. You’ll earn your B.A. in accounting while gaining real-world experience as an undergraduate. Every professor brings business experience into the classroom through multiple real-world projects and simulations, and through curriculum embedded with industry-standard software. You will develop the ability and enthusiasm to work in the dynamic global conditions of the 21st century.

Like most states, Wisconsin and Illinois require college students to accumulate 150 credits before taking the certified public accountant (CPA) exam. Carthage’s 4-1-4 academic calendar allows accounting majors to reach that milestone in four years.

Want to become a CPA?

In most states, including Wisconsin and Illinois, you will need 150 college credits to be eligible to take the certified public accountant exam. For students studying accounting at other colleges, that often means completing additional coursework beyond four years. At Carthage, accounting graduates can finish in four years with all the credits they need.

Carthage’s 4-1-4 academic calendar allows accounting majors to complete the 150 required college credits during their four years on campus. Every year, students take four classes in the fall, one class during J-Term, and four classes in the spring.

Accountants and auditors prepare, analyze, and verify financial reports and taxes, and monitor information systems that furnish this information to managers in business, industry, and government. The Carthage accounting major includes not only the essential accounting courses, but also other business administration and economics classes that will set you on a course for a successful career as a CPA.
