Hands-on Experience
Engineering science majors take on “real world” projects with local industry, nonprofit, and governmental partners. Carthage also has an established in-house program that develops engineering payloads for zero-gravity, with multiple NASA-funded projects.
Summer Undergraduate Research Experience
The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience, or SURE, offers Carthage students the opportunity to work one-on-one with a professor during the summer doing real research work. Students receive a stipend, room and board on campus, and a small research budget.

Special Academic Options: Engineering 3+2 Dual-Degree Opportunities
In this dual-degree program, students spend three years at Carthage and the final two years in an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Engineering program at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland or Washington University in St. Louis.

J-Term
January Term, or J-Term, is a month-long period of study in January in which all academic departments offer innovative courses on campus, as well as study tours in other countries. While many students use J-Term to fill an academic requirement, others gain valuable global experience by traveling abroad.
