Future Success

Carthage mathematics graduates have had tremendous success in a variety of activities. The department graduates around 20 mathematics majors each year. Recent graduates have attended graduate school at Cornell University, Syracuse University, Western Michigan University, Southern Illinois University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Vanderbilt, University of Kentucky, University of Waterloo, North Carolina State University, University of Colorado-Boulder, and University of Wisconsin-Madison. Graduates placed in industry have landed jobs at such companies as Accenture, IBM, Ruud Lighting, and Runzheimer International, as well as teaching positions at many high school and middle schools.

Community of Learners

At Carthage, students who major in mathematics not only receive an exceptional education; they become part of a family of learners. Organizations like the Math Club and Pi Mu Epsilon host mathematics-related activities on campus, from lectures to social gatherings.

Active Undergraduate Research Program

Carthage mathematics students have many opportunities to work closely with faculty on significant and varied research projects, and often present their research findings at regional and national conferences. For example, the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience, or SURE, pairs student with faculty mentors. Students receive a stipend and room and board to conduct research with their mentor all summer.
