Carthage has more than 130 student groups and organizations through which students can get involved, explore possible careers, meet other students, work closely with faculty advisors, and perform community service. See a full list of Carthage student organizations on The Harbor, our website for student organizations. The following student organizations are popular with musical theatre students.

Alpha Psi Omega

Alpha Psi Omega is an honors society for students interested in theatre. Membership is based on a student’s departmental GPA and the amount of theater classes taken. Alpha Psi Omega students participate in theatre activities and events throughout the year and encourage each other to learn more about theatre inside and outside of Carthage.

Lambda Kappa

Lambda Kappa is Carthage’s co-educational music fraternity. The organization works in tandem with the Music Department to sponsor events and participates in philanthropic initiatives, both within and outside of the community.

Merely Players

The Merely Players are Carthage College’s only improv comedy troupe. They regularly put on shows for college students to keep them laughing. They are entirely student-run and have been going strong for 27 years. Merely Players hold open auditions to join once a semester and have no limit on how many members they will take. If you are interested in joining Merely Players, please contact them via Facebook, Twitter, and/or email.

Carthage Music Ensembles

Carthage Chorale

The Carthage Chorale is a mixed ensemble that welcomes singers of a wide range of abilities and experiences. The chorale provides music for Chapel services and other College-wide events and is also active as a concert ensemble. The Carthage Chorale has participated in the Christmas Festival, the Annual Weston Noble Concert, Family Weekend Worship Service, and other events. It is directed by Dr. Peter Dennee, Associate Professor of Music at Carthage. Approximately two-thirds of the ensemble consists of non-music majors. In its mission to reach out to every member of the Carthage community, the Carthage Chorale explores a diverse body of repertoire that ranges from the Western art music tradition to African-American spirituals to musical theatre. New members are welcome. To inquire about trying out for the Carthage Chorale, contact Dr. Dennee.
