Pre-Law
Rather than any particular undergraduate major, law schools give preference to candidates who can write cogently and coherently, think critically, and speak effectively. After acquiring those skills at Carthage, many of our graduates go on to practice law with great success. Whatever your major, Carthage offers a variety of services to help you explore and continue your interest in law.
Law School Advising
Carthage students who are interested in law school can consult with knowledgeable faculty members, beginning with an introductory session during New Student Orientation. Pre-law students can also meet one-on-one with a pre-law advisor to explore options.
Fall Law School Recruiter Visit
Every fall, representatives from law schools across Wisconsin and Illinois visit campus to meet with interested students and answer questions about the application process and the steps needed to prepare for law school and a related career.
IN PAST YEARS, THE FOLLOWING LAW SCHOOLS HAVE ATTENDED OUR EVENTS:
Wisconsin Law Schools

Academic Offerings
Carthage offers concentrations in two majors — criminal justice and political science — allowing students to study the law in depth while receiving a degree in either field. Individual courses in many other majors focus on legal topics, as well. Besides earning credit, students in the Mock Trial course can participate with Carthage’s nationally competitive team.
Applying to Law School
The process of applying to law school is not as complicated as it is sometimes made out to be. It makes sense to plan ahead so that you have all the material you need ready to go by the beginning of your senior year. Be sure to contact one of our faculty advisors as you embark upon this process.
