Know the Steps.
Applying to college can feel overwhelming. At Carthage, we strive to make the admissions process easy to understand, so you can focus your attention on making the right decision for you.
Here are 10 Steps to Carthage — our guide to what happens between now and your first day as a Carthage student. Our Admissions Representatives are here to help at every step, so contact us at email@example.com or 800-351-4058 with any questions.
See what’s waiting for you at Carthage.
STEP 1: Join our mailing list
Interested in learning more about Carthage? Fill out our online Request Information Form. We will add you to our mailing list so you receive our viewbook, invitations to recruiting events in your area, and (best of all!) information about our scholarships. The form will ask about your interests, intended major, and extracurricular activities. That’s so we can send you information tailored to your interests and talents.
STEP 2: Get to know us
You can learn a lot about Carthage by exploring our website. Learn about our academic programs, student organizations, athletics, residence halls, and much more. So surf around and see what you land on. Looking for a place to start? How about our Carthage Overview. Looking for a spot to imagine? Our J-Term site. Definitely.
STEP 3: Now get to know us in person
*Note: Due to the current public health crisis of COVID-19, Carthage’s campus is currently closed to visitors. We have many virtual visit opportunities for our prospective students and families. Check them out today!
Some things you just have to see for yourself. Our campus is one of them. So sign up for a Visit Day, or make arrangements for an individual tour. See our Great Lake, stroll past Kissing Rock, and meet our faculty members. Visit us Monday-Friday during the summer months, or Monday-Saturday during the school year. During Fall, January and Spring terms, we can arrange for you to sit in on some classes. Year-round, we offer opportunities to meet with professors or coaches. For special requests like class visits or meetings with coaches or professors, please request an individual tour and give us two weeks notice so we can make sure you see everything that is important to you.
STEP 4: Apply!
When: Anytime after your junior year of high school
You can apply for admission to Carthage anytime after completion of your junior year of high school. We don’t offer Early Decision (where you commit early to attend). Instead, we offer Early Review/Early Notification. If you apply early, we review your application early, notify you of your acceptance early, and send you scholarship information early. If you apply during the summer, you will know by mid-September whether you have been accepted. (Applying as a nursing major? Nursing applications are considered under Regular Decision with an admissions decision notification in December/January.)
STEP 5: Apply for scholarships
When: october-december of your senior year
Carthage offers many competitive scholarships, including 35 Presidential Scholarships and scholarships in business, mathematics and science, modern languages, and fine arts — with awards ranging up to full tuition, room, and board. Applications for most of our scholarships are due Dec. 3. All students who are on the Carthage mailing list will receive information about our competitive scholarships, and all students can apply. Carthage also offers need-based and automatic merit scholarships to qualified students. Find out what you can expect to qualify for in scholarships and aid by using our Net Price Calculator.
STEP 6: File the FAFSA
When: After Oct. 1 of your senior year
We recommend that you file the FAFSA after Oct. 1 of your senior year of high school for maximum Carthage financial aid consideration. Carthage’s code is 003839. A copy of your FAFSA will be sent to Carthage after you file online so we can put together your financial aid award. File the FAFSA.
STEP 7: Review your financial aid award
When: beginning oct. 1 of your senior year
Students may submit their FAFSA form beginning Oct. 1 of their senior year. Financial aid packages will be sent out in mid-January to admitted students. The preferred deadline is Feb. 15 of your senior year.
STEP 8: Pay your deposit
When: Anytime after you are accepted; deposit by May 1 of your senior year to hold your spot
You can pay your deposit right away — anytime after you are admitted to Carthage. To reserve your spot in the incoming class, pay your deposit by May 1. The deposit is $300, is applied directly to your tuition, and is fully refundable if the refund is requested in writing before May 1. After May 1, Carthage will accept deposits on a space-available basis.
STEP 9: Sign up for classes and housing
When: As early as January of your senior year
Once you pay your deposit, we will send you information about housing and registering for classes. (So deposit early, and you’ll get housing and class registration information in January!) We offer advance course registration beginning in mid-January. Admitted students and their parents are invited to campus for an orientation session, in which you will learn more about student and residence life, meal plans, financial aid, and tuition payment options. You will leave Advance Registration with a tentative list of courses for the Fall Term and your Carthage ID card. Your finalized course schedule and housing assignment will be sent to you mid-summer.
STEP 10: Begin your life as a Carthage student!
When: New Student Check-in is held on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend
The final step of this guide is just the first step for you. You will receive all the details about move-in and check-in the summer after your high school graduation, but for now, just know this: We welcome you to Carthage and look forward to helping you discover what’s out there for you!
