Carthage awards up to 10 Tarble Scholarships up to $29,000 per year to admitted students from California. These scholarships are available to incoming freshmen or transfer students.

Carthage has established the Tarble Family Scholarship Program for California students who exhibit a spirit of adventure. The Tarble Scholarships honor the contributions and leadership of the Tarble family throughout California, and offer horizon-expanding opportunities for travel and learning. These scholarships are renewable annually based on recipients maintaining a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.5, and may incorporate all Carthage assistance.

The Office of Admissions will screen applications and identify candidates most suitable for the Tarble Family California Scholarships.

How to Apply

Candidates interested in the Tarble Family California Scholarships must complete the following no later than December 3:

  • Submit an application for admission to Carthage and supporting materials (high school transcripts).
  • Submit the Tarble Family California Scholarship Application. (available in October 2023; join our mailing list to receive updates)
  • Submit the Tarble Family California Scholarship Application. (Deadline: December 3, 2023)
  • Submit required essay (500-word maximum): People embrace adventure in their lives in a variety of different ways. Please give us your definition of “spirit of adventure.” How have you experienced adventure, and how might you experience it in the next four years at Carthage? (This is part of the online scholarship application.)
  • Submit a list of all high school and community organizations and activities (including work) in which you have participated. (This is part of the online scholarship application.)

The Tarble Family California Scholarship may incorporate all Carthage assistance. Scholarships and grants may be combined with federal and state grants, not to exceed full tuition. Scholarship amounts listed above are for students starting classes at Carthage in fall 2024 or later. Carthage also offers additional scholarships. See our scholarship page for details.
