Your Future in Paleontology

Carthage students who are interested in pursuing a career as a paleontologist should major in biology with a concentration in paleontology.

Paleontology courses at Carthage will help prepare students for graduate studies in paleontology. Students should also take courses in geology and statistical analysis, and gain computer skills.

A doctoral degree or Ph.D. is almost always necessary for a professional career as a paleontologist. Most professional paleontologists today are college and university professors, teaching general geology or biology courses in addition to paleontology. Other paleontologists work in museums, curating exhibits or doing their own research.
