Carthage has plans in place for supporting and assisting residential students who test positive for COVID-19, or who are displaying symptoms and awaiting test results.
When a student tests positive for COVID-19 or has a presumptive positive case of the virus, Carthage will follow the quarantine housing protocols below. A presumptive positive case of COVID-19 is usually identified by a hospital or clinic, which also contacts the Health Department.
Quarantine and Isolation Housing Protocols
Students who test positive for COVID-19 are required to go into isolation for 10 days. Students who are in close contact with a positive case are required to quarantine for 10 days after the last day of contact with the positive case.
- Isolate or quarantine for 10 days in a designated space at Carthage or return home to complete.
- Residential students in Madrigrano, Johnson, Denhart, and Tarble Halls will move to a designated isolation/quarantine housing space. Students in The Tower and Oaks may be able to isolate/quarantine in their housing space.
- Return to/stay in off-campus housing for an isolation/quarantine period of 10 days.
- Return home for an isolation/quarantine period of 10 days.
- Return/stay at home for an isolation/quarantine period of 10 days.
Residential students going into isolation, if given appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE) from the hospital or clinic, will be able to collect essential items from their living space to take home or to an isolation room. If the student was not issued PPE, the student can provide a list of needed items for staff to collect and deliver.
Students’ faculty and any campus employers will be notified for absence verification and will need to offer flip classroom learning opportunities and, potentially, remote work.
If a student is in Carthage isolation/quarantine on campus, food delivery service will be implemented in coordination with Sodexo. Students isolating in off-campus housing will be encouraged to use a similar method for food delivery by using friends to assist them.
We will determine the need to notify any groups who have had close contact with the exposed student. Examples include classmates, co-workers, residential floormates, teammates, and student organization members.
Any student in isolation/quarantine, regardless of location, will report daily temperature and symptoms via the Carthage Daily Check-In App.
If a student is free of symptoms after 10 days of isolation/quarantine, the student will be released to return to normal activity.
Isolation/Quarantine Housing Spaces
Carthage has created spaces for isolation/quarantine, both on campus and in the Wyndham Garden Kenosha Harborside Hotel in downtown Kenosha. Students housed in the Oaks and The Tower may be able to self-isolate/quarantine within their housing location. Students in Madrigrano, Johnson, Denhart, and Tarble halls will be relocated to isolate/quarantine in one of the newly designated spaces.
Quarantine/isolation housing assignments are made at the discretion of the Office of Residential Life and are assigned based on the availability and purpose of the space. All quarantine/isolation spaces have a refrigerator and microwave available for students to use during their time in isolation and quarantine.
