Certified Management Accountant Program

Carthage offers instructor-led CMA exam preparation courses. The centerpiece of this offering is the Institute of Management Accountants’ CMA Learning System (CMALS), a comprehensive program that includes textbooks and online practice tests.

Why You Should Do It

Increased Earning Potential
On average, CMAs earn 31% more than their non-certified peers.

Career Enhancing
The CMA validates your mastery of financial planning, analysis, control, and decision support — critical skills needed to be a valuable strategic advisor for your organization. The IMA provides its members with its monthly publication, Strategic Finance. Members also have the opportunity to attend its annual conference and the chance to participate in local chapter activities.

Live Instruction vs. Self Study
Students who choose to enroll in the preparation course will have instruction from Prof. David Brunn, the Rogers Palmer Distinguished Professor of Business Administration. Prof. Brunn is a CMA who has 30 years of teaching experience, along with 30 years of consulting experience with Arthur Andersen & Co. and Andersen Consulting (now known as Accenture). Prof. Brunn is one of four co-authors of the 2016 CMA Learning System Materials. Having live instruction enables students to more thoroughly prepare and take the exam earlier than their self-study counterparts.

Course Description

The course is offered to prepare students to take the corresponding part of the CMA exam. As an exam preparation course, it is intended to bring back to mind concepts learned in earlier courses Financial Accounting, Cost/Managerial Accounting or Managerial Accounting, Financial Management, Principles of Microeconomics, Intermediate Accounting I, and Auditing and to update for any authoritative changes since taking the earlier course. Students taking this course should plan to sit for the corresponding part of the CMA exam within two months of completing the course.

The spring section of the course will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. every Wednesday from Feb. 1 to April 26.
