Homecoming Kick-Off Events

October 11-14

Each year, the Office of Student Involvement sponsors an exciting calendar of events for students. Alumni and parents are invited to virtually join in the fun by watching Facebook Live streams and engaging with Carthage’s social media channels throughout the week. Student events include:

Friday, Oct. 15

Belonging: An Examination of Career Networking Through a JEDI Lens
Campbell Student Union Auditorium, General admission
Join us for a panel discussion with alumni talking about strategies for starting your career and life path incorporating justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) priorities. The conversation will be moderated by Black Student Union president Phillip Hunter ’24 and treasurer Kierra Coleman ’22.

The Carthage Athletic Department will recognize the newest Hall of Fame class featuring ten former student-athletes and administrators. These inductees were selected for their dedication to Carthage in competition, the classroom, the community, or a leader. In addition, the Carthage Flame will be awarded to Bob and Michele Bonn for their contributions to Carthage. Livestream will be available for this event.

150 Years of Carthage Women Closing Celebration with Jackie Joyner Kersee

Join us for the much-anticipated closing celebration featuring keynote remarks from six-time Olympic medalist Jackie Joyner Kersee. The 150 Years of Carthage Women celebration paid tribute to the important role of women at Carthage since 1870. Armed with strengthened academic programs and scholarship opportunities, a robust career readiness program, and exceptional women’s athletics, Carthage women are ready and set to go and bring positive change to themselves and the wider world. Livestream will be available for this event.

Homecoming & Family Weekend Casino Night

This family-friendly event includes casino-type games for all ages, including the student favorite Bingo, blackjack, craps, and more. No experience is necessary to win — all participants are entered in the Grand Prize drawing! Use your winnings to enter raffles for electronics, gift cards, local favorites, and the famous cheese ball barrel. Enjoy live music from Throwback Stereo while you play. This event is co-sponsored by the Carthage Activities Board and the Alumni and Family Engagement Office.

Register to run or walk
Get #fiREDup to run! Join the Carthage men’s and women’s Track and Field and Cross Country teams for the inaugural Firebird 5K. The route will begin at Kissing Rock and extend to the Pennoyer Park Band Shell south of campus, looping back to finish at Carthage’s Learning Moments statue featuring former college trustee President Lincoln. Registration includes a free Firebird tee.

Road to Graduation: How parents and families can support their students

Parents and families are invited to a panel discussion about how families can support their student’s academic studies, campus involvement, and mental health. The discussion will be followed by small group breakout sessions hosted by alumni facilitators. This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Student Success and the Alumni and Family Engagement Office. Attendees will receive complimentary tickets ($15 value) to the Alumni and Family Brunch immediately following the session.

Join fellow Carthaginians for a fun and relaxed brunch featuring made-to-order omelets and chef stations, mimosas, and a Bloody Mary bar. President John Swallow and Alumni Council President Aaron Tinjum will provide important updates about institutional initiatives, celebrate 75 Years of Black Excellence, and announce the 2021 alumni scholarship recipients.

Carthage spirit comes alive in the festival grounds! Tailgate area and food available for purchase. New for 2021, a Biergarten overlooking both the festival grounds and Art Keller field will offer beer, wine tasting, and seasonal food pairings.

Carthage spirit comes alive at the Forever Red Tailgate! Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the Augie Schmidt Field concession and pavilion. Government-issued ID required for 21+ area access.

Be the first to see the new Carthage Firebird Mascot debut at the parade! Also featuring entries by reunion groups, Alumni Council, student organizations, sororities, fraternities, music, and more.

Centrique: Celebrating 50 Years

Celebrate 50 years of Centrique, Carthage’s annual art and literature magazine. Enjoy a short presentation, gallery exhibition, and reception.

75 Years of Black Excellence: Evening of Elegance
Kenosha Public Museum 
Get your tickets
All are invited to an elevated affair at the Kenosha Public Museum celebrating Black alumni and honoring the first Black Carthage graduate, Lorraine Wiggan ʼ46. Semi-formal/elegant attire is recommended.

Family Movie Night: ‘The Breakfast Club’

Enjoy complimentary breakfast offerings from local food trucks in a casual outdoor atmosphere. Meet Carthage President Swallow and presidential spouse Cameron Swallow. Attendees will also be able to have their picture taken with the new Firebird mascot!
