The Health and Counseling Center offers a variety of free health services for full-time undergraduate Carthage students.

Health Services and Hours

Health services are available 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday when classes are in session, though hours may change as our team makes adjustments to meet the needs of the campus community.

The nurse practitioner is available Wednesdays from 2 to 4 p.m. (appointment required; NP services are provided by a third party and billed to student’s insurance).

The center is located on the first floor of the Todd Wehr Center (TWC), just past the student mailroom.

If students need medical assistance when the Health Center is not staffed with a medical professional or is not open, we encourage individuals to utilize urgent care locations (see information further down the page). In the event of a medical emergency, please call Campus Security at 262-551-5911 or call 911.

With the help of health experts, local and state partners, and the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we have developed a plan to safely resume in-person visits for health services. Only student-patients are allowed in the center. Students may make appointments ahead of time and walk-ins will also be accepted.

While the Health and Counseling Center does not offer virtual care for health services, we can provide referrals for telehealth providers (payment for non-HCC health services is the responsibility of the student).

  • Assessment and treatment of minor illness and injury, including basic wound care and suture removal
  • Diagnostic testing services for strep throat, influenza, pregnancy, and urinary tract infections
  • Complimentary over-the-counter medications provided after nursing assessment
  • Referrals to off-campus healthcare providers

Please note: The Campus Nurse does not write excuse notes for students seen in the Health and Counseling Center.

This policy allows our staff to direct our finite resources toward patient care and reflects our respect for students’ privacy. We strongly encourage students to communicate promptly with their professors if illness or injury interferes with their academic work and to determine what their responsibilities are under those circumstances.

The Health and Counseling Center coordinates official out-of-class notices for students who have been absent for three or more consecutive days. Students need to complete a release of information (ROI) and provide medical documentation to the Health and Counseling Center. Due to confidentiality, the Health and Counseling Center cannot contact any professors or staff members until an ROI is completed. Students who have been absent from class for one or two days should directly notify their professors if their illness interferes with their academic work and determine what their responsibilities are.

If you have questions, please contact us at or 262-551-5710.

Off-campus Healthcare Providers

Below you will find a shortlist of healthcare providers in the Kenosha area. It is the student’s responsibility to check with their health insurance to determine if the provider is within their network, as well as confirm insurance benefits and eligibility. If you have questions regarding the providers below or need a list of specialists in the area, please contact the Health and Counseling Center at 262-551-5710 or
