Book Nooks: Places You’ll Probably Study for Finals
Starbucks
Check that out: Sipping from an iced cappuccino without missing a keystroke.
“I’m a little bit addicted to coffee, so I would have to say the Starbucks is the number one spot on campus I’ll be at. It’s a great place to study as well as hang out with friends. — Trevor Milne ’26, engineering and musical theatre major
Straz Conference Rooms
Set up camp in a glass conference room with breathtaking views of Lake Michigan.
“One of my favorite spots on campus is a glass conference room in the back of David A. Straz Jr. Center for Natural Sciences. This conference room looks over the beautiful lake and is filled with sunshine during the day. It is one of my favorite spots to study and never fails to keep me at peace.” — Nicole Vydra ’24, marketing, management, and finance major
In the library, of course
Grab a friend. Grab a table. Plug in your laptop. Go.
“Hands down, my favorite spot is Hedberg Library! Finding a quiet chair tucked in the shelves or an old book by the huge windows makes me feel like I’m in another world. It’s the best place to study, relax, explore, hang out, and do anything else.” — Ava Serfling Bennett ’24, English and history major
The Tower Residence Hall
The higher the building, the higher the ambitions.
“My favorite spot on campus would probably be one of The Tower lounge areas because it is one of the best places to do homework. I love the view of the lake while I study.” — Nicole Biba ’24, political science and criminal justice major
Practice rooms in the JAC
The H. F. Johnson Center for Fine Arts has dozens of practice rooms. Music majors joke they live here. Sometimes the music is the work; sometimes, the music helps you work.
“My favorite spot on campus is the H. F. Johnson Center for Fine Arts. Every time I go in there, I see somebody I know. I also enjoy just sitting in a practice room to work on homework or practice singing.” — Nathan Koehlert ’24, music and accounting major
The Science Center
The Science Center offers great places to study for your next big exam, like the stepped seating area in the atrium.
“Without a doubt, one of my favorite spots on campus is the spacious room in the David A. Starz, Jr. Center. It’s a cozy haven where you can relax on the comfortable mats lining the stairs. This inviting space has become my go-to spot to unwind after classes, catch up with friends, study, enjoy a meal, charge my devices, and simply soak in the campus atmosphere.” — Summer Zilisch ’26, neuroscience and psychology major
The Oaks
Whether you grab a seat in the lounge or curl up in your bed in your dorm room, the dorm buildings are great spots to crank out some homework or stay up all night for a cram session.
“Oaks 1 Lounge 4 has the best lake view and is a quiet place to study. You can hear the waves from the lake and watch them crash on the shoreline. Something about looking at the lake is so peaceful that it brings a sense of calmness, especially on the more stressful days.” — Katherine Taylor Retek ’24, political science and musical theatre major
