Why did you choose Carthage?
“I got a good scholarship and I had a job that paid well and was local to Kenosha.”
Did you always plan to come to Carthage?
“No, I wanted to go to another Wisconsin college. I ended up seeing Carthage as an option that made a lot more sense.”
Why should other Kenosha residents consider Carthage?
“When I am on campus, I do not feel like I am in Kenosha. It is actually really nice. You also have the upper hand in terms of knowing where everything is in Kenosha, every landmark, store, gas station, restaurant. It has helped me make friends and get to know people. The biggest advantage in my opinion is that there is no homesickness for me. I could go weeks without seeing my family, or I could go days. I never get homesick because I could just stop at home whenever I wanted to.”
What is your favorite part about being so close to home?
“Your family becomes a resource. I can do my laundry for free, or go have a home-cooked meal and watch the Packer game. Sometimes I get away with getting free groceries. I still have a lot of independence and pay for a lot of my own things. I do not have to use them as a crutch. I feel like that is why people do not want to go to school so close to home because they feel like they won’t feel challenged or independent.”
What is the biggest surprise you’ve experienced as a Kenoshan at Carthage?
“I never got lost. I always knew where everything on campus was.”
Do you feel included in the school community? What has Carthage done to make you feel included?
“There are plenty of ways to get involved whether it is through your major or through other social interests. I recommend trying a lot of things that interest you. You will make a lot of friends.”
Advice to potential Kenosha residents coming to Carthage?
“Embrace it! It gives you a lot more to talk about when meeting new people.”
Many Kenosha students worry about coming to Carthage because they want to feel like they’re living away from home. What would you say to them?
“I live on campus, but my actual house is actually only 2 miles away. If you have the opportunity to live on campus, do it. I really enjoy having a campus life.”
