My name is Samuel Mischio ’19, and I am an incoming senior at Carthage College. I was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin and am a lifelong Packer and Badger fan. I am a marketing major and a Spanish minor, with plans to pursue a career in sales after graduating this upcoming spring.
I am working as a sales intern at C.H. Robinson in my hometown of Madison. C.H. Robinson is a global third-party logistics company with annual revenues topping 15 billion. It is the largest third party logistics company in North America, with over 180 offices in the United States alone and more than 280 worldwide.
I was fortunate enough to speak with Jason Gardner, a senior recruiter at C.H. Robinson, at the Carthage career fair in the fall of 2017. Jason encouraged me to apply and C.H. Robinson was gracious enough to offer me the opportunity to work for their Madison branch.
My role as a sales intern is to research new prospective business partners for C.H. Robinson to work with, contact them, and analyze their supply chain to see if C.H. Robinson can help make it more efficient.
When I began working this summer, I had never made a cold call in my life, and knew very little about supply chain management. C.H. Robinson gave me a chance to try my hand at both. I speak with new people every day, sit in on conference calls with companies worth multiple billions of dollars, and travel to local companies for in person sales calls.
In roughly six weeks of work, I have improved my conduct during conversations over the phone, gained extraordinary insight into the realm of supply chains, and have been able to work alongside some of the most talented and intelligent people I have ever come into contact with. C.H. Robinson has challenged me to improve myself every day, and I am truly thankful for being given the chance to spend my summer interning there.
