The Center for Children’s Literature at Carthage hosts award-winning author Lauren Stringer on Oct. 26. Ms. Stringer will discuss her latest book for young readers, “When Stravinsky Met Nijinsky: Two Artists, Their Ballet, and One Extraordinary Riot.”

The book, which has received three national recognitions, is about Russian artists Igor Stravinsky and Vaslav Nijinsky, and their 1913 ballet “The Rite of Spring.” When the ballet was first performed in Paris, people were so polarized, there were fist fights and riots.”

Ms. Stringer, author/illustrator of nearly a dozen books, will speak about how she became interested in the music composer and his ballet score that changed the history of music. A composer, a dancer, and a theater historian will give their insights into “The Rite of Spring.”
