Each smartphone comes with its own built-in calendar app, and most users try to configure these apps to sync with their Google Calendar, but after a while, that sync’ing (synchronization) inevitably stops working.

Before you set up, or try to fix the connectivity to your phone’s calendar, consider that Google has its own calendar app that is specially designed to work with their services.

Go to the app store on your phone and search for “Google Calendar.” Make sure that you pick genuine app, which you should not have to pay for. Download and install the app.  Once you launch it, you should be prompted to enter your account information including your password. It may ask you questions related to how often you want it to sync.

Remember that having an app always active will use more of your data minutes as well as more of your phone’s battery, but Calendar is pretty crucial to keep up-to-date, so it’s worth it. Make sure to set your phone to use wifi for the calendar app whenever it’s available.

Remember that Google Calendar has its own notification settings, so if you want it to ding, buzz, or keep quiet for each calendar event, you will need to set that up. The timing of the reminders in Google Calendar on your phone will be the same as what you set up in the online Google interface. An audible 10 minute notification can help you avoid forgotten meetings and get to class on time.
