The University of Chicago’s Jane Dailey will speak at Carthage at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in Niemann Media Theater. Her talk, titled “Sex, Race and the 14th Amendment,” is part of Carthage College’s ongoing Constitution Day Lecture Series.

Dr. Dailey, of the University of Chicago Law School and History Department, is a noted author and scholar whose research and teaching have focused on the post-emancipation South and the political and legal history of civil rights.She has published several books on the Jim Crow era and is presently working for Bedford Books on a history of the United States since 1877.

This talk will explore the historical and doctrinal evolution of the 14th amendment as it applies to both race and sex.This event is free and open to the public.
