Each Friday until the end of the term, we will be presenting a “super library resource” that will help you learn, research, and succeed. Each is presented by a professor who uses that resource. This week’s presenter is Prof. Ed Kawakami, telling us about Naxos Music Library:

“Dear Carthaginians, do you know about the Naxos Music Library? The college has a high bitrate subscription to the extensive Naxos streaming catalog that includes a wide array of genres, including jazz, blues, world music, Chinese music, spoken word, audiobooks, classical music, and oddly enough, ‘an impressive array of Scandinavian rock and pop music, jazz, indie-pop and folk/acoustic pop.’

Like many online streaming services, there are preset playlists and guided tours to aid in your exploration, but unlike Spotify, YouTube or Pandora, the Hedberg Library’s subscription spares you from advertising and provides a greater selection of classical recordings. The quality and breadth of repertoire available has made Naxos my “go to” resource for reference recordings. As an added research bonus, many of the recordings also include extensive liner notes, additional program notes, and links to other recordings of the same work available on Naxos.”

The Naxos Music Library streaming service is available via your tablet, smartphone, or computer.
