Carthage professor clarifies dinosaur growth in article on popular website
- Carthage College
Carthage professor Thomas Carr highlights the growth process of Tyrannosaurus rex and its relatives in a new article published on BBC Earth’s popular Walking With Dinosaurs website.
In the article, titled “How does your T. rex grow? Why young tyrannosaurs are confusing,” he identifies the differences between juveniles and adults from the same species. Similar distinctions remain evident in modern-day birds, wrote Prof. Carr, who is a vertebrate paleontologist and an expert on tyrannosauroids.
Students in Carthage’s paleontology program are required to complete a senior thesis focused on a young dinosaur’s development into an adult. That’s a primary research interest of Prof. Carr, who directs the Carthage Institute of Paleontology and teaches in the Biology Department.
The Walking With Dinosaurs website accompanies the Emmy Award-winning TV miniseries and touring live show of the same name.
