All Stories

A new video course for Spring 2018 has been announced! Poetronics (video art) + Space/Place Stories aka ART 200D-01 will be held from  9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.

What do videos and sculpture have in common? How can a physical place inspire a story?

This studio art course will explore the connections between the digital arts (video and audio) and sculpture. Through experiencing the parallel art fields of installation art (big sculpture) and video art, students will expand their understanding of storytelling and contemporary art. Video art will be screened in class and through a field trip to the Video Data Bank in Chicago.

Students will create both individual and collaborative artworks during the semester which mesh writing, spoken words, sounds/music and visual imagery (video and still photos). Students will use visual storytelling techniques to create several short videos and make a related installation or sculpture. One project will involve designing a digital artwork which describes and highlights the unique features of a physical space or architecture. (Think of a portrait of a place and the stories that are hidden inside it.)

Free online software will be utilized for the digital 3D designs, audio and video work.
