Art collides with chemistry this spring. Kaboom! In Color!
The Art Department is introducing an innovative new course in polymer clay this Spring 2014. Prof. Diane Levesque will teach ART 200E Polymer Clay, one of the first college-level, full-credit courses available in this engaging medium.
Polymer is a colorful, easy-to-use “clay” that is baked in a convection oven. Learn all about color theory while creating your favorite mythological creature in 3-D, a faux-coral necklace, a decorative bowl, a Steampunk box and much more. See a few examples of the types of projects for this course in the display case on the second floor of the JAC building.
Be the first on campus to learn basic and intermediate techniques in polymer clay. You will experience a tactile and visual approach to color theory while creating a repertoire of textures and patterns in polymer clay. Recent innovations by contemporary polymer artists have resulted in museum quality works of art, while numerous multimedia artists are utilizing polymer in sculptural and installation pieces. Instruction includes technical demonstrations, presentations on polymer artists, critiques, visiting artists and a field trip. This course is open to all students.
