Music Theatre graduate, Rachel Page ’10, is working internationally in Barcelona, Spain, on a second workshop of the original musical, “Survivor Story: A Workshop.” The workshop was composed and co-written by Rachel and her creative partner, Lindsay Bartlette Allen.

After two successful readings and a fully staged workshop production in Chicago in August 2017, Rachel has been living Barcelona, Spain, to assuage her travel bug and remotely work on “Survivor Story” re-writes in the sunshine. There, she has teamed up with the esteemed professor Viv Manning, an Estill Certified Course Instructor and head of the Music Theatre department at Eolia, Escola Superior d’Art Dramátic. Rachel will be working with seven very talented Catalan students on scenes and songs from the musical, culminating in a series of performances in March. After her workshop ends in March, Rachel and Lindsay will once again hit the ground running with another round of rewrites and tours as they work from both Chicago and Los Angeles on the growth of this piece.

“Survivor Story” is a new musical based on the lives of two real Chicago women who survived sexual assault, one of whom is co-writer and creator, Lindsay. In the show, although these women never meet, they share the same fears and face the same trials as they deal with the aftermath of their own experiences.

The show delivers a powerful message of how many people experience similar traumas and feel silenced. Society often depicts sexual assault as shameful, and survivors are often blamed for their own attacks. Rachel and Lindsay hope to remind audiences to truly open your hearts and minds to the those around you — a survivor is someone you know.
