The Kenosha Interfaith Scholar in Residence Program and Carthage College welcome William Cavanaugh, Ph.D., director of the Center for World Catholicism and Intercultural Theology and professor of Catholic Studies at DePaul University, to campus March 15-18.

During his visit, Prof. Cavanaugh will give a series of lectures on the roots of religious violence. He is the author of seven books, including “The Myth of Religious Violence: Secular Ideology and the Roots of Modern Conflict” (Oxford U.P., 2009).   

On campus, he will present “Weaponizing Scripture: Healing or Harming in the Name of God” and hold a panel discussion from 7 to 8:30 p.m., on Thursday, March 15, in the Todd Wehr Center, Jockey A and B.

Off campus presentations include:

  • Friday, March 16 — 7:30 p.m., Beth Hillel Temple, Kenosha — “The Myth of Religious Violence”
  • Saturday, March 17 — 5:30 p.m., Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Kenosha — “What Would You Kill For?”
  • Sunday, March 18 — 10:30 a.m., First United Methodist Church, Kenosha  — “Building Interfaith Relationships in Our Community”
