In April, while on retreat in Woodstock, Illinois, Jenna Leazott ’18 and Claire Heronemus ’17 learned where they will be spending the 2018-19 academic year through the Youth Adult in Global Missions (YAGM) program of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA). Jenna was assigned to Mexico, and Claire’s assignment is the United Kingdom. Maren Schutz ’15 was a part of the 2015-16 YAGM class and spent the year in Madagascar. The ELCA Young Adults in Global Mission program invites ELCA young adults ages 21-29 into a transformative, year-long journey in international service. As they offer themselves in service, ELCA young adults are shaped by the witness of our global neighbors. They share in the journeys of companion churches and organizations in one of nine countries around the world.  Beside Mexico and the United Kingdom, YAGM volunteers serve in Argentina/Uruguay, AustraliaCambodiaCentral EuropeJerusalem/West BankMadagascarRwandaSenegal, and Southern Africa.

Jenna learned about the program while working in Washington, D.C. from a volunteer who had recently returned. After hearing about the program, she know it was what she needed to do after graduating from Carthage. Claire has spent the year after graduation working at Disney. She is grateful for her time in Florida and is ready to spend the next year serving a new community in the U.K.  Jenna Leazott ?18 Jenna Leazott ’18
