Carthage College invites applications for a new part-time opportunity on our campus. The Assistant Director of Employer Relations and Internships will develop and implement a strategy that enhances external employer and industry partnerships with the Carthage community. The person in this position will work with employers to provide experiential learning opportunities for Carthage students, including professional employment and internship opportunities. The Assistant Director will build and sustain employer relationships that create positive outcomes for Carthage students and alumni.

Major job responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a list of key employers to engage Carthage students, developing effective and productive relationships with these targeted employers
  • Correspond with employers interested in positing positions on Carthage Career Connection
  • Enhance relationships with key and returning employers resulting in a broader set of recruiting opportunities within key organizations
  • Assess current employer relationships and identify areas of opportunity with new employers based on industry trends, student interest, and alumni/parent connections
  • Cultivate new relationships with local and national employers to develop internship and professional development opportunities 
  • Attend external networking events to increase interest in hiring Carthage students

Minimum education and experience required

  • Successful completion of a related bachelor’s degree; completion of a related master’s degree is preferred
  • Three to five years of related career development experience in a college or talent acquisition role
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with employers, students, alumni, administrators, and faculty members with respect to internships and career development matters
  • Skills needed in sales and persuasion with a proven ability to build relationships with all levels of corporate and nonprofit administration
  • Strong understanding of entry level opportunities in the current labor market for recent graduates
  • Ability to use a personal computer, Microsoft Office applications, online career assessment resources, LinkedIn, job search databases, and web browser
  • Ability to travel locally on an occasional basis
