Completed in January 2017, the Carthage Nursing Center has recently been awarded Gold in the American Society of Interior Designers’ 2017 Design Excellence Awards. Entered into the Educational category under Higher Ed, the project received the highest award possible.

Led by interior designer Tara Lopez of design firm Uihlein-Wilson-Ramlow-Stein, the former Carthage bookstore underwent a massive renovation in preparation for the College’s inaugural class of nursing students.

The now 3,000-square-foot facility includes two major labs: the Simulation Lab and the Skills Lab. The Skills Lab utilizes a central training center to introduce students to nursing basics in a supportive environment. With eight interactive mannequins, the Simulation Lab provides students with essential hands-on experience in performing procedures and dealing with patients.

The facility also includes a Debriefing Room and Welcome Desk equipped with playback technology, allowing students to review their performance in real time.
