Math and physics students Celestine Ananda ’20, Megan Janiak ’20, and Jordan Weathersby ’19 represented Carthage at SCUDEM, the SIMIODE Challenge Using Differential Equations Modeling. After spending a week creating a mathematical model for a Rube-Goldberg style contraption, the team presented their results at UW-Whitewater on Saturday, Oct. 27. Based on judges’ evaluations of their executive summary and oral presentation, the team took home the top award!

They plan to continue refining their model with the goal of presenting it at an upcoming math conference. Join us in April, when Carthage will host the Wisconsin MAA meeting, to learn more about their work.
