Carthage Theatre is bringing its translation of Sophocles’ play “Ajax” to Madison’s Overture Center for the Arts on Nov. 12 for one night only as part of the “In Good Company” festival of veteran art. The show is co-translated and adapted by Carthage students Melody Abbott ’19 and Sgt. Lawrence Gums ’19.

The mission of the show is to update and make accessible this timeless play dealing with trauma and veteran suicide and its aftermath for a new audience going through the same issues. In Carthage’s production, Ajax is played by a woman, which adds yet another dimension regarding LGBTQ+ issues as well as women in combat. There will be a talkback after the show to highlight the issues and open up dialogue with the audience.
