As part of Carthage’s Chamber Music Series, Carthage Trio will be performing in concert at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10 in A. F. Siebert Chapel. This concert will be Marie Sinco Warren’s first as a member of the group, and will also feature student Mary Kelly Hutchinson ’19 and Professor Michael Schneider.

Carthage Trio aims to enrich the lives of its audiences with music from both familiar and unfamiliar artists. The concert will open with Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Trio in A Minor,” followed by Schumann’s “Piano Quintet in E-flat Major.” The Tchaikovsky, an almost fifty-minute piece, was written in dedication to Nikolai Rubinstein. The dedication actually reads “In memory of a great artist,” which would be later used by Tchaikovsky’s own student, Rachmaninoff, after his death when he dedicated his own trio to him.

Schumann’s Work, “Piano Quintet,” shows a sunnier and optimistic side of Schumann, despite a troubling history of mental illness. Joining Carthage Trio for the quintet performance is violinist Mary Kelly Hutchinson and violist Prof. Michael Schneider. Mary Kelly is a student assistant with the Carthage Arts Academy and will be performing with the trio for the first time. Prof. Schneider performed with the trio last year and they gladly welcome him back.

The Carthage Chamber Music Series celebrates its 22nd year with a remarkable lineup of artists! The Chamber Music Series brings exceptional performing artists to southeastern Wisconsin for concerts and educational programming at Carthage and in local schools, made possible with a grant from the Helen C. Smolenski Chamber Music Fund of the Racine Community Foundation.
