TODAY: Carthage welcomes guest speaker Holly Painter, founder of the Obsolete Jobs Project

Do you ever wonder what your job will be like in the future? Are you concerned that offshoring or advances in technology will someday render many of today’s jobs obsolete?
Automation, globalization, and trade are changing our economy. Writer and photographer Holly Painter has spent the last four years traveling the country to interview and photograph Americans in “endangered” occupations for her Obsolete Jobs Project.
Currently a lectuter at the University of Vermont, Prof. Painter will visit Carthage and Kenosha for two special events in November.
Nov. 16 — “Clock Out: A Conversation About the Future of Your Job”
Prof. Painter will share stories and predictions, and interview a Wisconsinite whose job may be endangered. The presentation begins at 7 p.m., with food and drink specials available beforehand from 6 to 7 p.m. and a work-themed trivia game to follow the conversation at 8 p.m. Carthage economics professor Erik Johnson will serve as emcee for the event.
“Clock Out” is sponsored by the Wisconsin Humanities Council, Carthage College, and Rustic Road. “Clock Out” is part of the council’s Working Lives Project, a statewide initiative examining the past, present, and future of work. Rustic Road Brewing Company is located at 5706 Sixth Ave., Kenosha.
