An endowed scholarship honoring the father of a Carthage alumna is now available to seniors majoring in neuroscience.

The Salté Endowed Scholarship for Neuroscience Excellence has been established thanks to the generosity of Charlene Sonderman Salté. Ms. Sonderman Salté made this gift in memory of her late husband, Terry Salté, who passed away in 2014 from a neurological disease.

Their daughter Kate (Salté) Nunez ’06 was moved to study neuroscience at Carthage after watching her father struggle with his illness for many years. Ms. Nunez received the Susan (Worley) Pietrowski Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to students who demonstrate a strong desire for scholastic achievement and a concern for the welfare of others.

Ms. Sonderman Salté says her daughter’s scholarship meant so much to the family that it inspired the generous gift. Her husband encouraged all of his children to go to college in pursuit of their dreams, and Ms. Sonderman Salté is proud that this gift will allow students in need to pursue their own dreams for years to come.
