The Fine Arts Honors course, The Problem with Pigment, is available for Spring 2019. If you had not been able to find a seat in a section that worked for your schedule, this section may help you solve that problem.

Here are the details:

  • TP: The Problem with Pigment (FAR)(HONORS)
  • ART 200F-01
  • TR 9 a.m.-noon, Johnson Art Center, 219
  • Instructor: Professor Ryan Peter Miller

This Honors Seminar seeks to address the intrinsic and applied meaning of color found within our complex visual culture, as reflected in our biology, history, and language. The content of this course is accessible to students of all disciplines; experience in the fine arts is not a pre-requisite for success.

Throughout the course, students will address, apply, and adapt the ways in which our culture understands and utilizes color in our day-to-day life. Through a series of visual projects, using drawing, painting, and sculptural techniques, students will approach the subject of color to understand its personal, philosophical, and cultural content. Utilizing written analysis, critiques, and group discussions, students will evaluate the visual outcomes to address the objective and subjective effects of color.
