It is with great pleasure that we write to announce that David Nelson, the athletic communications manager, will serve as Interim Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications, effective Monday, Jan. 28, and until the search for a permanent AD for Communications is hired.

Since his arrival at Carthage in March 2016, David has worked closely with nine varsity athletic programs, in addition to managing all social media for Athletics, maintaining the Athletics website, and managing graduate assistants and student workers. He oversaw the 2018 Indoor M/W Track & Field Championship, and the 2017 CCIW Men’s Lacrosse Tournament Championship.

David has distinguished himself as a top performer, earning accolades from coaches for his responsiveness and attention to detail, and from communications colleagues for the quality of his work, for his follow-through, and for his warm and approachable manner.

Prior to joining Carthage, David served as Sports Information Graduate Assistant at Black Hills State University. While at Black Hills State, David was the primary contact for volleyball, women’s basketball, softball, and rodeo. He served as the secondary contact for the remaining nine varsity athletic programs at BHSU.

David was the sports information assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Superior prior to his stay at Black Hills State. At Superior, David played a large role in improving public relations in the athletic department as they were without a full-time sports information director. David holds a bachelor of science in business administration with an emphasis in sports management from UW-Superior and a master of science in strategic leadership from Black Hills State University.

David also served as the NCAA site representative at the University of Chicago Men’s Soccer Regional on two occasions, in November 2016 and November 2017. Administrative/official conference calls, on-site administrative meetings, trophy presentations, and game administration were among David’s responsibilities as the NCAA site representative. David also had a stint as the NCAA site representative at the University of Chicago Men’s Tennis Regional in May 2018.

Please join us in thanking David for assuming this interim role.
