Prof. Megan Moyer Learn about the research interests of two new faculty in the Chemistry Department and Mathematics Department at a presentation help at 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 18 in the Sladek Distinguished Science Forum (DSC 163).

Professor Megan Moyer will present on “The Synthesis of Ordered Porous Carbon Materials Using Silica and Metal Organic Framework Templates.” She will cover two general methods of producing ordered porous carbons using other templating materials, including mesoporous silica and metal organic frameworks.

Prof. Diana Thomson Professor Diana Thomson will discuss “Digital Image Compression Using Artificial Neural Networks.” Artificial neural networks are machines that “learn” to approximate data sets via mathematical training algorithms. In this talk, she will using ANNs to compress and decompress color images and compare the results when using real-valued versus complex-valued ANNs.
