Sammie Woodward ’20 named to 2018-19 Google Cloud COSIDA Academic All-District Women’s Basketball Team
Carthage women’s basketball junior guard Sammie Woodward ’20 was named to the 2018-19 Google Cloud College of Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA) Academic All-District 6 Women’s Basketball Team on Thursday. Sammie becomes the first Lady Reds basketball player to earn the distinction since Morgan Harris in 2017.
Sammie, who owns a 4.0 cumulative GPA as an exercise and sport science major, has started all 26 games for the Lady Reds in 2018-19, where she owns 10.2 points per game, 4.3 rebounds per games along with 53 assists and 25 steals. Her 51 three-point field goals made and 1.96 three-point field goals made per game in 2018-19 currently ranks fifth in the CCIW. Sammie’s .398 (51-128) three-point field goal percentage is currently second on the team.
The Franksville, Wis. native’s game of note in 2018-19 was a 60-58 loss to North Central on Feb. 6, where she notched a season-high 21 points, five three-point field goals made and 39 minutes of playing time.
Sammie will attempt to become the third Lady Reds player to earn COSIDA Academic All-American, which is scheduled to be announced on March 13, 2019.
To be nominated for COSIDA Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her institution.
