Carthage’s Jazz Combo and Jazz Ensemble performs TODAY
Join us for a spring concert with Carthage Jazz Band and Jazz Combo, Shakin’ not Stirred, at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17 in the A. F. Siebert Chapel. This event is free and open to the public.
Shakin’ not Stirred will perform such selections as “Take the A Train” by Billy Strayhorn, and “How High the Moon” by Morgan Lewis.
Shakin’ not Stirred is coached by Russell Johnson, beginning his first year at Carthage as trumpet instructor, in addition to his position at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
Music performed by the Carthage Jazz Ensemble will include jazz standards such as Frank Foster’s “Shiny Stockings” and Buddy Rich’s “Big Mama Cass”, as well as other selections from the big band books of Stan Kenton, Sammy Nestico, and Paul Clark. The Jazz Ensemble is under the leadership of Professor James Ripley, director of instrumental music activities at Carthage. This spring jazz concert promises to provide an eclectic evening of one of America’s greatest art forms.
